Jersey is biggest home insurance premium winner

Jersey residents enjoyed the biggest fall in home insurance premiums last year whilst neighbouring Guernsey was hit by a substantial increase.
The extent of the postcode lottery for home insurance has been revealed in a new survey by the price comparison website Moneysupermarket.com.
Jersey saw the biggest decrease in premiums between Summer 2010 and Spring 2011 with an average 13 per cent fall.
In comparison Guernsey faced a 32 per cent increase as insurers brought them into line with the rest of the country.
Julie Fisher, head of home insurance at MoneySupermarket.com explained: "In Jersey, one fifth of the population is retired, and low crime rates coupled with mild weather conditions means that the cost and frequency of claims are likely to be lower than other areas of the country."
With an average decrease across the country of 0.4 per cent, residents in London's SE and EC postcodes saw the next biggest fall at 7 per cent. Other gainers included Norwich, Dorchester and Leicester.
"East London is undergoing significant regeneration and infrastructure improvements and insurers may be adjusting premiums as a result," Ms Fisher added.
The other big losers were Kirkwall and Lerwick in the Shetlands and Llandridnod Wells in Wales.
