Top ten: Best beds of spring/summer 2011
Wednesday, 2 February 2011 4:56 PM
Few of us think we're getting enough sleep, and with TV, the internet and social media distracting us 24/7, even a quiet night in can result in going to bed late.
But what if your bed was truly beautiful? Surely hitting the hay would become a thing of excitement, rather than boredom? Wouldn't we all throw down our iPhones and cancel the SkyPlus subscription in favour of bedding down good and early every night?
Well that's our theory and we're sticking to it, particularly if it means we have an excuse to buy one of these gorgeous beds... Here are spring/summer 2011's top ten designs.
1. Four-poster king-size bed by John Jenkins

This gorgeous four-poster was launched as part of the ReDiscovers range in celebration of Heal's bicentenary. It was designed by company veteran John Jenkins, and is made from solid American black walnut with an upholstered inset panel headboard and striking green fabric drape.
£2,995, Heals.co.uk
2. Marquess Sublime

Part of Vi-Spring's new Natural Luxury Collection, this honeycomb number has distinct echoes of the playboy about it. Smoking jacket optional.
From £9,900, ViSpring.co.uk
3. Ella silk buttoned bed

This ultra-luxurious bed is fully upholstered in 100 per cent silk. We love the calming sage green (though it also comes in several other colours).
From £1,325, RainesAndWillow.co.uk
4. Mallani Curved Bed

Made from Sheesham wood, the Mallani is a Fairtrade bed imported from northern India.
From £499, Myakka.co.uk
5. Arbre four-poster bed

This quirky, wrought-iron four-poster is called Arbre - that's French for 'tree' don'tcha know - and handmade in Morocco.
From £1,260, EmeryEtCie.com
6. Retro bed

The soft angles, the tapered headboard, the distinctly 1950s vibe… What's not to love about this gorgeous upholstered number?
From £775, TheSleepRoom.com
7. Mandarin bed

The ultimate in sophistication, this Chinese elm bed features the signature fretwork of Orchid's Mandarin collection.
From £2,090, OrchidFurniture.co.uk
8. Bask bed

There's something absurdly comforting-looking about this chunky oak bed - but its clean angles lend it a contemporary look too.
From £549, FurnitureVillage.co.uk
9. Carved squares headboard

Okay so we're cheating a little here - technically it's the headboard that caught our eye - but with a design as unusual as this, can you blame us?
From £2,716, ChristopherGuy.com
10. Rubens bed

Bedtime becomes playtime when you hop aboard this stunning sleigh bed. Its sleek lines and hand-carved scrolls mean that it would look equally becoming in traditional and contemporary settings.
From £2,725, AndSoToBed.co.uk
