How to care for Weber charcoal barbeques

Known for their classic good looks and delicious results, Weber barbecues are the perfect accessory for any back garden. Whether you're throwing a party or simply grilling up a family feast on a sunny Saturday afternoon, there's no doubt that these devices are wonderful to have around.

The most popular option in the Weber range is the Weber One Touch Original. Its iconic design hasn't changed much since it was invented in the 1950s - after all, why improve on perfection? Although, these days, the domed lid is available in a rainbow of stylish colours.

In addition, the company offers portable charcoal grills, perfect for a trip to the beach or for those who don't have the storage space for the full-size version.

No matter which barbeque grill you have, the key to enjoying that delicious smoky flavour is to keep the unit in tip-top condition, so be sure to follow the advice below - that way, you can rest assured your Weber will provide you with many years of excellent service.

Cleaning your Weber

After cooking, it's important to clean the grill properly - so it's ready to go the next time you fancy a steak or veggie-burger. This will also prevent any rust or other deterioration.

Start by allowing the majority of the residue to burn off, then let the coals cool a bit. While the grill is still warm, use a brass grill brush to scrape off any food particles from the cooking grate.

You can also remove the grate and wash it with soap, water and a scouring pad. When you're done, be sure to rinse it off and dry it completely.

Once the ashes have completely cooled, remove them from the bottom of the kettle and throw them away. If the charcoal you use is free from chemicals, you may be able to add the ashes to your compost or use them as fertiliser in your garden.

Finally, brush off any remaining food particles or cooked-on grease from the inside of the kettle and the lid. As with the grate, you can also use warm soapy water for a sparkling finished appearance, but be sure to treat the enamelled outer coating with care to prevent scratches.

Storing your BBQ

With the unpredictable British weather, one of the best ways to protect your Weber is with a high-quality cover. This will keep it nice and dry during summer showers and will protect it from scratches and other damage the rest of the time.

As the days start to get shorter and colder, you may want to find a place in your garage or storage shed - if you have one - to pack the Weber away for the winter.
