Deciding where to buy your family home can be extremely difficult, as you'll want to make sure that wherever you choose will be great for every member of your brigade and will be suitable for you all throughout the years. Chelmsford in Essex is a great place to bring up a family - here are just a few reasons why.
Commuter belt
The city has become an increasingly popular destination for people looking to move out of London over the years, as it is on the commuter belt. Residents - or Chelmsfordians - can make it into the capital on the train in half an hour. Therefore, it is an ideal location to choose if you and/or your partner work in London, but want the benefits of the suburbs in order to bring up your family.
As property prices in London exceed most other locations in the UK, it is hardly surprising that many people are considering buying new homes in Essex to save money and get themselves a bigger house that will accommodate a large or growing brood, while still being able to work in the capital.
Busy city centre
If you are keen on enjoying a vibrant social scene - or you have teenagers who like to meet up with friends a lot - you'll be glad to hear that Chelmsford is home to a variety of restaurants, cafes and bars, as well as large shopping areas. With these amenities, you can be sure you will be able to catch up with your pals, dine out frequently and find everything you need.
Those who are heading to the Essex city from the capital will no doubt realise they don't miss the latter evening life at all - what with all there is to do here.
Kids' activities
As well as having bars and restaurants for you, the city also provides entertainment for youngsters. There is a variety of leisure centre and sports facilities in Chelmsford, so you won't be short of places to look if your kids want to take up a new hobby, they wish to go swimming in the school holidays or would love to go ice-skating with their friends.
When the sun's shining, you'll also be able to spend a lot of time in the outdoors - something that can't often be said if you have been living in the capital with your little ones. There are plenty of parks and green spaces, where you simply enjoy a stroll in the fresh air, take part in fun activities or involve your kids in games with other children.
During the school holidays, there are often free events taking place in the parks, enabling youngsters to have fun on bouncy castles, get their face painted or make things in craft sessions, among other activities.
For families with sporty children, Chelmer Park is home to the city's rugby and hockey clubs, while Chancellor Park has football pitches, tennis courts and a bowling green. Melbourne Park is another popular spot, covering 21 hectares, including College Wood. There are also courts to brush up on tennis, netball and basketball skills here, as well as play areas for little children to have fun in. The pretty park is a great location to have a family picnic, where you and your loved ones can unwind in the sunshine - reminding you yet again of why Chelmsford is a great place to live with your children.
